Parent Meeting Update

Thank you to all parents who came out to the Parent Meeting last night. So great to have your support! I hope that you found the evening valuable.

Two important messages to pass along:

1. Please continue to support our Breakfast Club, especially if our child is someone who uses it. Our athletes are very welcomed at Breakfast Club, but we are a big group and donations of food and/or $ are greatly appreciated. Thank you to all of you who have done this over the winter months.

2. Eric Stevenson – Jr Girls Coach – is investigating taking juniors to South Carolina to train during the March break next year. This sounds like a wonderful opportunity for training and team building. If you are interested in learning more about this, please contact Eric or let me know and I will pass your interest on to him.

On Water To Start This Weekend BUT…

SWC rowers and coaches are ready to hit the water this weekend BUT …

We cannot do so until we have paid our bill to the SCRC, which I cannot pay until all athletes have paid their spring fee of $355 ($330 is you raised $100+ in the fall fundraiser). Our head secretary will need a day or 2 to cut the cheque so …

If we want our athletes on the water this weekend, the money must be in by tomorrow (Wednesday April 1). Please help us help your children have the best rowing experience possible this season. Let’s get on the water!!

REGISTRATION and PARENT MEETING

Only 1/2 of our athletes have registered on line with the SCRC and Rowing Canada (novices only).

This MUST be done asap please – athletes cannot go on the water until they have done this – and yes – we will be getting on the water sooner or later.

Please have your child register tonight – go to the SCRC website or look at a previous posting from me on this site for details.

Reminder: We have our Spring Parent Meeting Monday March 30 here at SWC. Please meet in Guidance at 6 pm. Meet coaches, get good advice on what your child needs to wear on those cold mornings, organize a carpool, pay your on-water spring fees – its an excellent meeting to attend.

THANK YOU!

SWIM TEST

photo 2

Happy to report that all SWC rowers who came out passed their swim test last night. Passing the swim test is a requirement for getting on the water in a few weeks. If your child did not attend last night’s test, they must come and see Ms Hunt asap. Thanks!

MENTAL TOUGHNESS

A big Thank You to Barry Wright (rowing dad to Jr Girl Monica Wright) for coming out to the safety video presentation this morning and talking to our athletes about the mental preparation aspect of being an athlete. We learned about the “optimal zone” for the best performance and how to get there (the “in the zone” moments); how to energize and relax, pre-race routines and positive talk. All so valuable for our athletes to hear. Thank you Barry for taking the time to share your expertise with us!

IMPORTANT UPDATES AND INFORMATION

Spring is in the air! Can you feel it? You might have to really, really try – but its there!

And on that note, coaches and athletes are thinking about getting on the water! (stop laughing)

REMINDERS

1. SAFETY VIDEO AND SPORT PSYCHOLOGIST Wednesday March 11 7:45 – 9:00 a.m.

All rowers MUST view the safety video produced by the SCRC BEFORE they get on the water. We will all be viewing this video Wednesday March 11 in the auditorium. Upon completion of the video, we are very fortunate to have Barry Wright (Brock University) volunteer to speak to our athletes about motivation, sports psychology and the importance of mental toughness in sport.

2. SWIM TEST Wednesday March 11 9:00 p.m.

All rowers must attend and pass the annual swim test before getting on the water. This year, we have been scheduled by the SCRC for this. Please meet at the Kiwanis pool by 8:45 p.m. so that Ms Hunt can get athletes checked off the list and we can be in the pool by 9 pm. Your child will need to bring shoes, , socks, sweat shirt, t-shirt and sweatpants, as well as their bathing suit.

NEW INFORMATION

1. BROCK TANK FEES

Our athletes have been making use of the tank facility at Brock all winter. The cost for this was not included with registration fees. Our rowing account will pick up 1/2 the cost for the tank and we are asking each athlete to pay $30 each. If you have not already done so, please send your child with $30 to either their coach or Ms Hunt asap. Thank you.

2. REGISTRATION

Each athlete must register online with the St Catharines Rowing Club. Please see the link below. They cannot be registered for regattas without having first done this. Please complete this step asap.

As well, all athletes new to rowing must also register with Rowing Canada – please see link below.
