Junior Women at WOSSA London May 30 – 31

Our Junior Women showed us all that they are ready for CSSRA this past weekend. Although the regatta was cancelled due to weather before most of the finals could be run, our Bulldogs had already scored a gold in the Junior Women 4+! Before that, we had placed finalists in the Junior 2x, Senior 4x, (yes – SENIOR), and the Junior 8+. We were all sorry to not be able to see 2 of our boats meeting head to head in the Sr 64kg 4+, but a thunderstorm and then numerous storm cells surrounding the area caused the regatta to be cancelled early. It was great spending time with the girls and their parents and coaches. Thank you to everyone – many hands make light work. The BBQ was a great touch, the food generously donated and good times had by all.

See you all next weekend on Henely Island.

CSSRA Approaches!

Entries are in, the tent site secured, our athletes are ready to go and the weather forecast looks excellent. The excitement starts to build!

A reminder that we will be looking for volunteers and food donations for the Bulldog Tent. Please email Angela at gardena70@yahoo.ca if she has not been in contact with you yet.

I will be excusing all rowers from school on Friday June 5 with the expectation that they will be on the island with their coaches and crew mates whether racing that day or not.  A strong cheering squad in blue and gold would be an excellent way to start off the regatta!

If you haven’t bought any spirit wear yet, well – you need some for the big weekend! Scroll down this page to see photos of what is available and prices, then send your athlete in to see me at school. I will have spirit wear on the island that weekend, but why wait and be disappointed that your size is sold out?

South Niagara Regatta

Beautiful weather for a regatta and the Bulldogs were up to the task! Congratulations to all our athletes and coaches on terrific performances and strong efforts. A special mention to our medalists:

Jr W 4+ – 2nd
Jr W 4x – 2nd

And of course – a huge thank you to the coaches for all their dedication and hard work. Thank you also to all the families who donated food for the Bulldog Tent. I hear the BBQ is getting fired up toe CSSRA, so stay tuned to your emails for more info!

Mothers Day Regatta

Thank you to everyone who helped out making this year’s Mothers Day Regatta another success. A special thank you to Tania for being at the island with the Bulldog tent and to the families who donated refreshments and support! New photos from the regatta sent to me by two families are posted in the Gallery. Congrats to our medal winners!

On to Niagara South! Food donations for the tent always appreciated.

Tag Day Saturday May 9

Tag day is a SCRC fundraising event. It is their major money-maker and participation is mandatory. This is an opportunity for all athletes (with help from their families) to give back to this great organization that is providing them with this opportunity to row at a world-class facility. Your child should know where their shift is and at what time (they have signed up for it at school). Please do your part. It is only a 2 -hour shift and can be a lot of fun. I am asking athletes who are on the last shift to hang on to their shift’s boxes safely for the weekend and deliver them back to the island Monday morning. Thank you!

From Coach Eric

Friday May 8

Thanks to every SWC crew on the water this morning. its great to know when there is an emergency that we all know how to react and what to do to help. The Jr girls went for a dip – all are fine! Thanks again!

Mother’s Day at the Bulldog Tent

Just a reminder that we will have a tent on the island for the Mother’s Day Regatta and we hope to see everyone there! We would also appreciate contributions of healthy snacks to share with all the athletes, coaches and their families – fresh fruit, cheese sticks, bagels etc. We have lots of granola bars left over from last weekend so we are good for those.

Thank you in advance.

Westside Regatta May 3

It was another beautiful day for a rowing regatta. All our Junior crews made the trip to Buffalo to compete against – mostly – American crews. Congratulations to all athletes and coaches on a fine day of competition with a special congrats to the Lightweight Novice Women who won both their heat and their final. The Jr Women’s quad came in 3rd in their final in a tough one-race event.

A special thank you to the coaches – Eric and brother Bill – who loaded and drove the SCRC trailer with our boats to this event. Its a big job and it doesn’t end until the boats are back in our boathouse rigged for the next workout.

Thank you also to all the families who came with goodies for the Bulldog Tent and cheered their children on. It was a fun day.
