ST.CATHARINES ROWING CLUB

GUIDELINES AND RULES

 

  1. Observe proper safety conditions at all times
  2. Far side 1500m pylon and nearside 500m pylon must be visible
  3. Assigned safety group decide on condition safety
  • when in question, there is no question, we don’t row

 

  1. In any emergency call 9-1-1 and follow the posted Emergency Action Plan
  2. Observe the boathouse open and closing times
  3. Take responsibility for the boathouse at all times; when in doubt, close all bay doors and lock all gates.
  4. All singles must have a whistle and personal flotation device (PFD); club owned singles will have these items provided; PFD can be removed for racing only
  5. At all times we respect fellow athletes, competitors, volunteers and officials
  6. All are expected to read and follow the club handbook*
  7. All are expected to read and understand the club Emergency Action Plan (E.A.P.)*
  8. 2 person maximum in coach boats while coaching or observing training
  9. Trailered boats must be returned to the boathouse no later than the day after the regatta
  10. Two coaches MUST stay with any junior athlete(s) waiting for ride home from the boathouse
  11. There is an observed sliding scale of coach experience versus number of boats permitted to coach; this must be followed
  12. All Under 19 and Under 17 crews will be accompanied by a coach boat; including private singles
  13. When on the water no matter what size shell, a person at all times must be at the boathouse and be aware of your presence on the water
  14. Uncoached groups on the water; put a coach boat in the water just in case one is needed in an emergency
  15. PFD’s are to remain in the bag with the bag closed unless needed for emergency use; PFD’s are not seat cushions
  16. All shells are to be wiped down after every row with a personal towel

Unisuit and Spirit Wear Orders

All athletes must purchase a unisuit to wear in the upcoming regattas.  They have not changed since last year, so if you already have one, you are fine.  The deadline is March 20th.

To order a unisuit and additional spirit wear:

  1.  Go to regattasport.com
  2. Click on iTeam Login (on left hand side).
  3. Choose Sir Winston Churchill.  Password is SWC16.
  4.  Place your order.

Please note:  for other apparel, there is a minimum number of orders for it to be processed.  Please contact Regatta Sport directly if you have questions.

Ontario Erg Championships

Congratulations to all who competed in the Ontario Erg Championships held at Ridley College on Saturday.  Many personal bests were achieved.  Malcolm Cavanaugh, Johan May, Will Spencer and Arrin Falk-Dotan finished in the top ten in their category.  Owen Voelkner won first place in the senior men’s 165 category!  Each and every participant put their all out there and should be proud of themselves.  What a great way to cap off winter training.

A reminder that this week club fees are due ($375 – cheque made out to Sir Winston Churchill) and that tomorrow (Wed. March 9), all rowers MUST watch the safety video in the auditorium at 8:30 and participate in the swim test at 8 p.m. at Kiwanis pool.

FEES DUE

The fee for the on-the-water season is now due.  It is $375.  This covers the St. Catharines Rowing Club (SCRC) fee and the entry fees for regattas.  Please make a cheque payable to Sir Winston Churchill and submit to Ms. Romaniuk.  The fee is due by Friday, March 11.

Safety Video and Swim Test

March 9th is a very important day for all SWC rowers.  At 8:30, after morning practice, ALL athletes are required to report to the auditorium to watch a safety video produced by the SCRC.  At 8:00 p.m., ALL athletes must report to the Kiwanis pool on Carelton St. for a swim test.  Wear shorts, a t-shirt, sweatpants and a sweatshirt.  You must be able to tread water with these layers on.  Mark Welsh, SCRC captain, will be recording your names.  ***NO SAFETY VIDEO OR SWIM TEST, NO ON-THE-WATER ROWING SEASON***  NO EXCEPTIONS.
